StopMotionAnimation.com

taking one frame at a time since 1999

Hi, I'm an animator looking encourage my 8yo nephew to try some basic animation over Christmas. I found a kit (his present) that came with a phone-holder tripod, but the app that the kit recommends is not well reviewed. Does anyone here use Android apps for stop motion, or know of any that are considered good?

Oh dear. Don't know much about this, but here's a link to a review of apps:

and Aardman have an app called Animate It:

I appreciate this last one seems to be for iPhone, but maybe it is now also available for Android?

Hope this helps a bit.

I've tried one of those (further down the  mykidstime list), Stop Motion Studio, on an iPad, but I believe it works on Android as well.  On a phone, the image would be a bit small for judging precise moves - a tablet is better for seeing what you are doing - but kids generally aren't into precision so it would still do the job.  It had all the basics I needed in the free version - you can see what is live in front of the camera, slide it back to the last few frames to see how your move compares, play what you've shot so far, and save it at the end.  I'm sure there are a few others that work just as well.  It was only for a test, I animate with a DSLR and Dragonframe, but it was a similar process.  My lighting was designed for a DSLR with a longer exposure, shooting stills, so the image on my old iPad 3 was a bit grainy, but brighter lighting would fix that.  Here's my test if you want to see how it worked:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCldXEMOCLM&t=48s  You'll find other tutorials on Youtube for this one, or whichever app you are thinking of going with.

Hey guys, thanks for your help, I look forward to trying some of these out on the holidays.
