Hello wise board of SMA!

I am planing to make simple moco unit with Arduino system. I got great help from previous post about the subject and from Simon Tytherleighs comments.Things have developped plesant ways since last time I looked to this subject. Seems that it is possible to do system with ~400€!

One thing what puzzles me is bearings of pan and tilt head. I am planning to make U shaped one.
Have you used some axial ball bearing for Pan? Maybe something like this:
https://www.vxb.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Kit7852

Or do you have it without any bearings, just wax or something?
How about Tilt?

Thank you,

-Tatu

Hi Tatu P, do you still have DFmoco code for RAMPS 1.4 shield? I'm trying to modify DFmoco sketch myself and it looks very tricky. Also do you need to remove D1 diode?

Yep! Edu Puertas has good easy style wit cable ties and all.

I have modified DFmoco code for RAMPS 1.4 shield. So if someone needs that code, feel free to contact me. Figuring out pins was time consuming. And I managed to burn one set of Arduino and shield, because I did not remove D1 diode from RAMPS 1.4. But now everything works - at least for now.

Hi Richard,

yes, remove D1 diode if you have bigger than 12V power supply. Otherwise you will fry your board and controllers. I did that ones. It can work for some time, but it will fry in some point.

.ino file is attached here:

Your code works great! I'll have to share some images of the moco rig im making. Thanks so much!

Heres a recent cad rendering of my rig, currently almost 85% completed prototype!

Hi Richard,
your rig looks great! Is it mostly aluminium or what? Do you have some pictures from the inside of it? How you are setting the motors, gears and bearings up?

I am glaad thet code worked.

Best,

Tatu

Its like about 60% aluminium, the rest is 3dprinted ABS plastic. Heres a little photowall of some of my progress. Regarding bearings etc im using a combination of thust bearings and axial bearings which are to be install in the 3d printed axis parts to carry the load. Theres a fair bit to it but i'd be happy to share more info!

As soon as I get the chance i'll send some better pics

Also currently keen to play around with dragonframe but wouldnt mind having a standalone program built for raspberry pi. My idea is to use magnetic encoders you could theoretically program the movements practically by moving the rig by hand and setting keyframes that way. I think it would make it pretty fun for some timelapse stuff and moco stuff! I've already ordered the magnetic encoders :P

Looks good! Setting in and out points by hand sounds handy. And with encoders you can have defined zero/home point for the motors too.

I am thinking to make small jib arm for my system. My rig is not the perfect but good enought for personal work.

Looking really nice. I am just in the process of designing and 3D printing parts for my latest rig, trying to use stock aluminium extrusions where possible. Printing in PETG. It will be a small jib arm on a track, 6 axes including focus. Building on the experience of the previous two rigs, hopefully even better this time!

Its got pretty big tbh, i'll upload tests once its working! maybe in a week, i think a small version could be cool! like 1/4 the size for lightweight dlsrs and smartphones. But looks pretty sick with the red camera on it i must admit! lol
