I'm kind of desperate for a ball and socket armature. I want an armature I can use without worrying about breaking in the middle of a scene. Sadly, the materials here relating to machining metal armatures are close to none, I can't afford the expensive armatures online. Is anybody here doing any custom armature stuff, that maybe you could sell for a reasonable price?
What sort of price range would be reasonable for your project? Do you have a specific budget you are trying to adhere to? Is this a student project? A personal project?
You can definitely get a decent armature kit online for less than $100, if that's what your going for. A custom armature can easily be hundreds of dollars so it doesn't seem like a low-cost option.
In the end if you really can't invest at least $80 into a good ball-and-socket kit and don't have the tools to machine it yourself it's best to go for a wire armature for now. It really depends on the needs of your project, the length of your film and the intensity of the animation.
