So this is a long story, but last December I sent a letter to Tippett studio in hopes that it would reach Phil himself. I’m probably the youngest person on this website so I grew up watching the “old” good movies like Starship Troopers, Robocop, Star Wars, Dragonslayer, etc. However, I noticed that however bad the other effects looked, the monsters looked so realistic. I would even argue that Dragonslayer’s dragon looks better than even the most recent ones in today’s CG. As I got older, I began to understand that those were the works of the legendary animator Phil Tippett

Anyway, I was sitting around enjoying my Saturday, and I went to check the mail and I thought I got a late birthday card, because the envelope had my name in the middle of it. When I saw who it was from my heart leapt. When I sent the letter to him a year ago, I included a picture of my work to ask for his judgement. I opened the envelope and saw 2 things:

My original photo of a puppet I made, and he put 3 exclamation points at the bottom of it!

And there was also a piece of some hard cardstock WITH AN AUTOGRAPH ADDRESSED TO ME.

I know a lot of older people on this site grew up with Harryhausen, and I can definitely respect his work, but I only discovered it as I got into film. But this is the guy that made all my favorite childhood movie effects. I figured you guys would appreciate hearing about this!

Here’s the picture : I covered my name with a piece of paper, but it’s there!

That's great. I hope it acts to inspire you and helps you get through the challenging times.

Bomb diggity! Phil T. was at this years Montreal Stop Motion Festival. I entered my stopmotion Star Wars parody: SNARK WARTZ, hoping he'd see it. Oh well, I was declined. Phil sent a neat birthday card to Harryhausen as well.
