I have a Nikon d5100 which I connect to my I Mac to use live capture in dragon frame. The cord that comes with my camera is pretty short. I just want about a yard more length I hate having to move my computer to awkward angles for certain shots. I tried buying a usb extension cord to give me a few more feet but only the camera registers when I use the extension. The computer does not recognize the camera when I use that. Anyone know how to fix that or know where i can purchase a longer connecting cord for Nikon cameras?
I use a USB extension cord when connecting my Canon DSLR to Dragonframe on the Mac, and everything works just the same as with only the short cable. I think the extension is 1.2 metres long, and it is a large size USB connector at both ends - I plug the cord that came with the camera into it, so I am using both. I don't know why a Nikon would be different, so I wonder if your extension cord has some connections but lacks others, or there is a fault in one little wire. I did buy one cheap cable for my iPad that worked on the charger to charge it, but couldn't transfer data to the Mac, it didn't have every function.
My extension wasn't made by the camera maker, so it isn't anything special. I googled Nikon USB Cable, but all the hits I got were sellers in my country (Australia).
There may also be longer cords with the mini plug on one end to connect to the camera, I don't know.
