taking one frame at a time since 1999

Hi folks,
Bit of a weird one this...I work at the Bristol School of Animation, and we have been using Stop motion Pro with canon 400D cameras for years with no issues. I upgraded my computers last year (they run windows enterprise) and upgraded to stop mo pro 7...again no problem...I needed to replace some cameras this year, and bought five canon Eos 700D cameras...but they simply won't connect to Dragon-frame or Stop Motion Pro...on the same machines that the 400d's work perfectly with...it can't be a cable or port issue, because I have tried a few cameras in a few machines...they will work in live view mode in the canon utilities package...am stumped...help?

How awful, 5 of them... Can they be returned, if all else fails?
I checked the SMP and Dragonframe websites, and the 700d is listed among the compatible cameras for both of them. (As you probably did before you bought the cameras.) I don't actually know anyone using a 700d. SMP had someone with a Canon that worked with Canon software, but not with SMP, and it turned out to be the cheap USB cable - which you have checked. And you would have the Canon cables that came with the cameras.
I have had a USB port on an older Pentium4 computer which worked with some devices, but not with something more recent, suggesting the new device required a more advanced function. And while my 40d and recently bought (but first released 4 years ago) 7d work fine, a friend's more recent model 60d would not connect. My old PC would have USB1 ports, but not USB2, so I suspect the latest cameras are requiring a connection to SMP that USB1 does not have.
How old are the computers? But you have also tried with DF, was that on a different computer? I was able to use the 60d on a 5 year old Mac Pro with DF.
Thanks for the reply Nick...yup..I tried them on DF on the same machines...and also on DF running on a Mac...the mac connected sweet as a nut...but the PC's are a no go with this camera...and I can't return them as there is no fault on the camera..I thought it might the graphics card...but I'm really more of a puppet maker than an IT guru...so I'm just guessing...my last shot is that someone out there has had an issue with the same configuration.
I am in a tight spot as I need these up and running by October...SMP team have not encountered this issue...it's just an unlucky mix of IT build, camera firmware and software version I reckon....cheersmedear...m

Me too, puppet nerd, definitely not IT nerd!   Hope you find a way out of this, but I don't have any suggestions other than investing in 5 iMacs, and I suspect your budget is pretty well spent.

Try contacting the guys who put out dragon, I had an issue setting up dragon with my old canon 40D and they were great with walking me through the issues. I'm certain they could help you with a connection issue for sure

Which version of Dragonframe are you using? If it's older than 3.5, the 700d won't work according to the Dragonframe site: http://www.dragonframe.com/cameras/canon_eos_700d.html

There's more info about the camera and DF in that link, and some specific instructions for Windows.

I was just on the Dragonframe site, says that EOS 700D camera is not compatible with 3.0 version of the software. Try updating to 3.5.

That still leaves all the PCs with Stop Motion Pro not working with the 700d, but if a later DF will work, that's gotta be cheaper than replacing the cameras.
