StopMotionAnimation.com

taking one frame at a time since 1999

Ning, which hosts this site, has been wanting me to upgrade to Ning 3.0 for years now. The current site operates on Ning 2.0 which has been fine, although I have been noticing that they are focusing more on 3.0. Some of the functionality of 2.0 has been lost or buggy over the years. So I decided to go ahead and start to develop the new site on the side. I opted for a more streamlined approach and just focus on the Message Board. No blogs, photos, or video pages. All that can be incorporated in the Message Board anyway and might make it easier to find. Things to come, someday, probably by the end of this year.

But the categories will continue to exist?

All Message Board categories will remain and all messages imported as well.

Anthony, I am sure I speak for many when I say that I am eternally grateful to you for keeping this amazing resource alive and kicking at all. It has been such a great source of really high quality information over so many years.

Thank you also for putting in the work to upgrade the site. I am sure its streamlined approach will still be able to help animators the world over.

Thanks for the kind words Simon. It has been a privilege to serve the stop motion community by keeping this site going for the past 22 years. The new site will feel more like the original site, which was a basic Message Board. I am hoping it will run more smoothly and with less errors than the current site.

Looking forward seeing the upgrade of your site be it with Ning 3.0 version or your own ways to develop on the site. And always thankful you keep this community alive.

Thanks MMC. Will aim high for sure. However, the new site will not have separate areas for Blogs, Photos, and Videos. I would suggest anyone who wants their posts to be transferred to the new site, to only post on the Message Board from now on. At some point, all the messages will be transferred over. So it will be a simplification of the site in some ways, but I think it will make things easier to find. Photos, Videos and even Blogs can be posted on Message Board and it will be less confusing.

There is an optional feature on the new site called Groups which I think could be beneficial. For example, there could be a Stopmo Jam group for all the participants of the next Stopmo Jam. It could be a good way to communicate to all the members of just that group. Each group has its own Forum and Photo section as well. Still looking into it.
