taking one frame at a time since 1999

can you help me with something?

i want to know about removing rigs from frames.

i have a rough understanding and i have done it before but i was not sure it was the 'right' way or the quickest way.

the way i did it was export the scene as single images along with a clean shot of the background. find the images with the rig in it and open them in photoshop along with the clean shot and remove the rig, revealing the clean shot behind. save the images and import the scene images into premier (i think).

I used premiere and was able to use a 8 point trash mask in the keying video tools. Put your single clean frame into vid track 1 and your anim frames in vid track 2. Add the 8 frame trash to the frames with your rig in it. When the effect is selected you will see 8 control points around the vid screen, move them around to cover the rig. You can select the effect from one frame, copy and paste to other frames. There is also a 4 point and 16 point trash matte effect. I used this on my ball bounce vids and it worked pretty well.

cheers for replying Dieter, i am not sure what you mean though, im not too confident with premier.

When i get back the house i will open up premiete and give you some better details and maybe a short vid. Not sure its the best method but it worked....haha

brilliant, cheers Dieter. i am just having a go at removing the rig in each frame using photoshop.

Here's a quick video, hope it makes sense.  Also I'm using an older version of premiere, the newer one could have a much better way of doing it.

i am following the discussion...

thank you very much dieter for this video!!

Dieter, thanks for that tutorial.  I assume that if there are multiple rigs in the frame, that multiple garbage mattes can be created?

Yes Anthony.  I actually used 2 on some frames of my ball bounce because i had some light flickering.  So on those frames I went back and added another garbage matte and masked out the entire set.  I'm not sure if there is a limit, but it would seem you can layer on as many as you need.  There are also 4 point and 16 point ones too, if you need less or more control.

Good to know, thanks again.  I've got many frames with dozens of rigs to remove.

when you have filmed your ball are you exporting it as a movie then importing it into premier or are you exporting the image sequence and importing the images into premier?

actually dont worry about my last comment, i just had a little go at your method, and it makes sense to have separate images. cheers for the tutorial.

Yeah Mark, I use image sequence.  Just allows you more control, and if the garbage matte doesn't work you can always just select the image and right click and choose edit in photoshop.  Then when you save out of photoshop it is updated in premiere and you can keep working along smoothly.

I'm glad that the method i stumbled upon is actually useful...haha.
