We've had a similar thread once or twice before, where people post some of their favourite stop motion shorts.  But old threads quickly vanish into the distant past, so I don't know where they are.

An animation teacher asked me for some recommendations for her students just a couple of weeks ago, animated shorts that could be found online.  They didn't have to be stop motion, but that's what I know best, so that's what I came up with.  I'm having problems posting, message says "reCAPTCHA was incorrect", but I didn't have to do any Captcha stuff so I'll try breaking it into parts.

Ok, that worked without any of the links, so I'll try the first group and see:

Nope, not working. Had to take the links out...  then it still wouldn't post.

First group, Stopmo short films which tell their story without words:

Balance (Wolfgang & Christoph Lauenstein, Germany,1989).   Oscar.

Chucha.  Garri Bardin, Russia, 1997.  (Many others -  Ugly Ducking, Grey Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood...)

Slim Pickings.  (Anthony Lucas, Melbourne 1998).  (From same director,  Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello, Oscar nominee).  But for me, Slim Pickings is an example of a perfect short animation.

Hasta Los Huesos.  (Down to the Bone), Rene Castillo, Mexico 2001.  (Same director, Sin Sosten.)  Made before Corpse Bride, which has some similarities in the way it depicts the world of the dead, so I always suspected some influence.

Peter and the Wolf.  Suzy Templeton, UK & Poland, 2008).  Oscar.

Madame Tutli-Putli  (Chris Lavis & Maciej Szcerbowski, Canada 2007).  Oscar nominee.

The Maker (Australia 2011?)   (Same director - Zero.)

And one of mine -
L'Animateur  (Nick Hilligoss, Melbourne 2007).

Got the list to post after 3 more tries, but without links.  No luck posting any of the links, tried just one and it failed.  The others were:

A very different approach - the early short films of Melbourne animator Adam Elliot, which tell the story through narration, with minimal animation  - Brother, Cousin, Uncle.
Oscar winner Harvie Krumpet still has some of that approach.
Same director - Mary and Max, feature film.
And three which depend very much on lip-synch dialogue:
The Great Cognito.  (Will Vinton Studios, USA 1982)  Oscar nominee.   Tour-de-force of claymation morphing.
Creature Comforts.  (Nick Park, Aardman, UK 1989) .   Oscar.  (Same director - Wallace and Gromit shorts.)
The Big Story.  (Dave Stoten, Tim Watts, USA 1994).  With 3 Kirk Douglases!

Thanks Nick!

Lately I've been trying to explore the stop motion animations from Japan. One that caught my eye is a show called Mori no Ratio by Tomoyasu Murata which can be found here. Unfortunately, I have only been able to locate the first episode online. From my understanding, there are many seasons of it which I would love to see.

Another one I like incorporates 360 VR with stop motion. No VR headset is required as you can use the mouse to move around. Youtube link to Nariomaru's video here.

This is one I was really impressed with when I saw it for the first time years ago and I have the feeling not that many people know it (but I might be wrong)

Its called 'ah pook is here' by Philip hunt. https://vimeo.com/36013914

And please do check out 'oh willy' by Emma de swaef and Marc James Roels if you havent seen it allready. https://vimeo.com/45322909

And padre by Santiago 'Bou' Grasso Great film! https://vimeo.com/162326419

Just a couple of names. If I have the time I'll try to come up with Some more.

thanks everyone! lots to check out

I have a bunch of them on this pinterest board.

I'm still curious what that short was called that had the two clockwork (human?) characters winding each other up with a key on their backs. Seems like I saw it only yesterday, the storyline is not to hazy, but the NAME I can't remember. Anyone?

I'm a big fan of Edmond, by Nina Gantz https://vimeo.com/172911816

Saw this one for the first time a couple days ago : Bath House - By Niki Lindroth von Bahr https://vimeo.com/207466220?linkId=35269367
