What's a good editing software that's free and worthy of trying?

I really need a good editing software that is free and is good for making stop motion films

Try HitFilm Express -- it's pretty comprehensive, and there are lots of good tutorials too.

For now I did some work with dragon frame, and I used the crack version...would be good just for my hobby work. I can maybe send your the one I'm using

For the more professional animation shot with a Canon EOS DSLR, the capture software (like Dragonframe or Stop Motion Pro) and the editing software (like Vegas, Premiere, or Final Cut Pro) are two different things.  And a lot of the effects work is done on another program, like After Effects. And they tend to cost money.

If you are using a computer, is it a Mac or a PC?  I think there are a couple for windows pc.  It's worth googling to see what comes up.  The only free one I knew for Mac, Framethief, is too out of date to work with the current or recent OS I think.

Hit film Express, that John Oakley posted a link to - looks like a reasonably good video editor, with the core program for free but a lot of add-ons you can pay for.  Runs on both PC and Mac, too.  But it probably doesn't work as a stop motion frame grabber.

If you want to shoot with a smart phone or tablet, you can definitely use a free frame grabber like Stop Motion Studio (which I tested on an iPad) or a couple of others.

Cookieeeee - You might not know it, but the guys who developed Dragonframe are members of this forum.  They check in now and then to help when someone has a difficulty with Dragonframe.   Somehow I don't think they will be very impressed to see you offering a crack version to someone - they put a lot of time, money, and hard work into creating Dragonframe and keeping it up to date with new camera models.

For now im going to try out hitfilm express hopefully it will improve my films thanks for the suggestions!

Don't ask for cracked versions of software on this forum. Not only is it not cool, it's illegal.

I am now editing with Blackmagic's Da Vinci Resolve, which is free, but works like most pro editing software so it was easy to pick up after using Final Cut Pro 6 and 7, or Premiere Pro.  (More familiar than going to Final Cut Pro X!)  There is a paid version but I don't need it.  I edit in 1920 x 1080 HD but the free version can also go up to Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 (sometimes called "4k", though true 4k is a little wider at 4096 pixels).

I don't know any totally free video editing software. But I know one software - TunesKit Video Cutter that provides 5 free chances to any users who don't want to register. And even in the trial version, this program won't limit you to use any editing tools or embed watermark automatically to your videos. Most important of all, TunesKit allows you to cut videos without degrading any quality.

This article has listed the top 5 free video editor software. You can check it out if necessary. I myself use Joyoshare Video Cutter. It's not totally free but cost-effective as it helps me losslessly cut, trim, split, crop, rotate, convert, merge, and edit video and audio files. I got totally amazed by its performance.

I just wanted to second the recommendation of Da Vinci Resolve, you can’t find a better free editing program. It’s also the industry standard for colour grading!

Kdenlive is worth looking at. I think it's pretty powerful, and reasonably intuitive.
