I really need a good editing software that is free and is good for making stop motion films
Tahoma2D is a opensource and free build of opentoonz for stopmotion. It can do traditional animation as well, and handle a lot of layers. I can highly recommend that. For editing I use the free resolve, it's high end. And it does cover everything from colour grading to soundscape building.
Hitfilm is free but you have to bye everything you need, even down to a normal cross fade. Can't recommend that!
With so many free professional options, don't use pirate stuff.
https://tahoma2d.org and join the discord channel. Totally free and the only opensource stopmotion program that I know of. You should join and be a part of the development. Lot's really outstanding tools here. And if you have any ideas for improvements, they are most welcome. That goes for all of you! It's so great to see it grow, but we need you to use it and come with your feedback. Try it out!! And if you need help there's a lot of people ready to help out on the discord forum of Tahoma2D!!
As you probably have figured out hitfilm is not free. Use black magic's davinci resolve for colour grading and editing.
