taking one frame at a time since 1999

back in my uni days, I made a stop-motion short film called Wildlife on Mars, the idea of the short, to show in a fantasy element what life on Mars may have been like. The whole idea was based around if prehistoric creatures similar to dinosaurs had evolved on Mars before the time of the dinosaurs.

It was well received at the university degree show with many people of all ages taken a shine to it on many levels, kids were been the creatures, adults relived their childhood days watching similar movies in their youth and the elderly having flash backs of watching the same films with their kids.

but it wasn't until recently that I've revived the project, I entered a Ray Harryhausen storyboard contest in Nov 2011 and I actually won, Ray himself has seen the "Martian Rex" puppet and can't wait to see the finished film, even Tony Dalton, Rays author is keen to see this film made, and many other animators in and out of the industry.

The puppets are both going to be build-up puppets with wire armatures, seeing as money is tight and i can't afford to do what I would prefer to do which is foam latex and ball and socket armatures, the sets will hopefully be a single set that can be taken down and rebuilt into a new set, seeing as the set will be mostly trees and rocks, but there will be a cliff scene at the end which will be the only big change to the set.

so for now I'm trying to get a "normal" job to get my savings up, hopefully set up a kickstart account to ask for funding from the public and try to get some work experience in places like Aardman and Mackinnon and Saunders, but for now ill keep you all updated here and via my facebook page 3 ARM CREATIONS

Good luck on your film, and congratulations on winning that contest! There were a lot of wonderful entries.

Yeah, good job winning the contest and I love the dinosaur puppet. Sounds like an interesting project, looking forward to seeing the progress.

Jeff

Michael,

I am working on a T. Rex puppet (1/20th scale), and wondered if you would be so kind to share any ideas/comments on/solutions for the armature.  I will be posting some construction drawings soon.

Thank you,

Martin
