"The best way for smoothness is to use the frame grabber and/or surface gauge to make sure your moves are nice and even, and small enough for the speed you want, when animating.  But you may have some already-shot scenes that you want to…"

Smoothing and Motion Blur

Hello. I am just wondering what is the best and most common way to smooth out animation in post professionally?Aardman's work for example is extremely smooth but I know that the Wallace and Gromit shorts are mostly shot on 2's.Ive tried frame blending and motion blur in after effects as well as using the trial of ReelSmart Motion Blur but I was just wondering are there any other alternative methods used? Thanks.See More

"I would advocate playing with the lighting, use gels over the lights and just experiment to get something that is pleasing and interesting. You could try those RGB LEDs that will allow you to get different colours."

"Thank you for replying!  I never really thought about adjusting the white balance in dragonframe, but that makes sense. Also now that you say it, the fact that a filter would be a uniform color would probably be best avoided.  My 55mm is a…"

StopmoNick replied to Dylan Dreher's discussion Lens Filters and Extension tubes
"Rather than use a lens filter,  you could play with the white balance (adjustable in Dragonframe) to get the golden light.  You can also colour grade the shot afterwards in After Effects or your editing program to shift the colour, for…"

Lens Filters and Extension tubes

Hello! New here, But have always had a strong passion for stop motion animation and have to say this site is a bit of a Godsend.I'm making a film at the moment and I'm using the standard equipment. Using a Canon camera with a couple of Nikon manual aperture lens's (35mm and 55mm) Just wondering, has anyone used lens filters to create different colored lighting effects?I'm thinking of doing two scenes that these may help with. Both scenes need to look magical/fantastical in terms of the color…See More
