"soap will do or you can use a gelatin powder i think that will give the semi trasparent look more real salt lamp"

"Just wondering if sugar might do the job. You could experiment by adding drops of food colouring perhaps or cooking it until it caramelizes. Then you could get it into a lump while it is still molten. You might then be able to nibble away bits of it…"

"Hi Dave, Yes, I was thinking wax or soap though I don't know if they'll look matte enough on camera. Will definitely give it a try though thanks for the feedback :-)"

"I had to Google salt lamp to see what it looked like. My first impression was wax, though that might not be considered lightweight enough for your needs."
