The 2006 film was a success for the actor as it earned him a Golden Globe award apart from garnering over $260 million globally.
Now if the report from Jeff Sneider of Collider is to be believed, the sequel has not only been shot but has also been screened for a few selected people from the industry. Sneider has given his report based on confirmation from multiple sources. He further adds that according to sources the plot of the second film revolves around Cohen’s character the Kazakh journalist Borat hiding from the spotlight after he believes that he is a big movie star after the success of the 2006 film, so he goes around discreetly as a pretender meeting and interviewing people.
Cohen has been in the news lately because of his prank videos that have surfaced on the internet. Many fans firmly believed that he was onto something perhaps even a second season of the Showtime series “Who Is America?”
In June, Cohen made some controversial headlines after he joined in a far-right rally in Washington and satirically sang a racist song.
Mayor Rudy Giuliani called another prank of Cohen “absurd” when he had stormed one of Rudy’s interviews with a female journalist which was about White House’s response to the devastating pandemic wearing something that Rudy described as a “crazy outfit.”
Fans had already started speculating about the Borat sequel when a viral video surfaced last month in which Cohen was seen driving a speeding car on the highway. However, fans were confused whether this was a prank or actual footage from a possible sequel. Now, it is clear from the Collider report that the footage was indeed from the sequel of the 2006 film. According to the report, the filming has now concluded, and one of their sources had funnily described the sequel as “Cohen playing Borat playing Cohen.”
Borat was a domestic as well as international success grossing more than $260 million at the box office. The critical reception of the film was also overwhelming which ultimately earned Sacha Baron Cohen a Golden Globe Award for the best actor in musical or comedy and an Academy Award nomination for the writers in Best Adapted Screenplay category at the 79th Academy Awards.
