First blog ever so I'll try and keep from not writing a novel. I decided to do a small film for the Stop Motion Jam #3 and decided to start a blog about that journey. Not every day will be a post and not every post will be about the film but in the end isn't it all about the film and film making. Can I even call it a film? Here are the first few entries in the Production Diary: (the date of the entry then the day of the project counting up to the deadline)
Stop Motion Jam #3 is announced, 15 seconds, 24fps, Halloween Theme, start and end on black, 16:9 ratio, deadline 9-18-21 (238 days) See official post for more details.
I check my email and see the announcement and decide to participate. My son Colin sends me a Halloween photo and I have my main story within the first hour of learning of the contest. I then jump into Blender and build a quick computer animation to see my vision. My original idea takes about 40 seconds of film so I cut one of the actors out. I then use my Iphone and some props to quickly create the scene in live action. I then keep trimming it down in Video Studio until it plays in the allotted time.
No power this past week due to an ice storm. I bundle up and go the basement and start rearranging furniture to setup my 24x36 animation table which has been in the garage for 3 years as a storage shelf. It is a simple plywood table that is 43 inches high.
