That looks good!  With the fine detail on the edges of the hair of your puppet, I can see the benefit of not having to key it, too.  I'd be interested in seeing what a frame from the Coraline video looks like, from the digital file rather than re-photographed from the screen.  But even without the comparison, I can see it doesn't look as harsh and contrasty as the screen in the test I did.

Making good progress there. Lighting and focus looks good.

more progress on rear tv screen projection.. I think it's safe to say now this technique could work out for me.. or anyone who wants to try it out.. and I tried to make my first puppet here.. it's still a work in progress.. trying out different ideas..

progress.. on rear tv screen projection..  you guys are the experts you decide..

I took my time doing this walk and I feel like I was really making progress..

then I wanted to try and turn the armature into a character.. my first attempt.. I protected it with ptfe tape then coated it in latex dyed black.. sort of a zombie pirate.. I know the scene is too dark but I had to make it dark because of the t.v.. I don't know how to get around this now.. it's presenting issues..

another rear tv screen projection test.. this time I reposition the projected moon to be higher up in the sky and brought in the building prop and the tree.. just trying to make it look more like a proper scene..  I realise now that I have to set the scale of my puppet to set the scale of the buildings and any other props including the projected moon in this case.. the lighting is a real challenge.. I find the lights are too big.. does that mean I have to buy different kinds of lights to illuminate just the puppet and not the surroundings.. and the tree etc.. I realise I'm going to need a quite a big set to do this sort of layout.. being able to manipulate the height of the props and t.v. so so important..

Another rear t.v. screen projection test done tonight.. I worked really hard to get the lighting right.. it's a nightmare trying to light it without getting reflections on the t.v. and it's hard to find a clip that's suitable to use.. I guess all these things have to be planned...

Please let me know what you guys think.. I think I got the lighting right on this one.. although I should have placed the background up higher.. it's suppose to be the moon  in the night sky.. I didn't realise that lol.. and I could have done a really nice smooth moving camera from full shot of him to the sky where the moon could have been hoovering over his shoulders.. that would have been much cooler.. but it's only a test anyway.. don't get carried away James.. I get so excited when I get into it..
