Free on-line course starts in October: A History of Art for Artists, Animators and Gamers

Hallo everyone,

For all you newbies and not-so-new, there's a free on-line course starting in October. By the California Institute of the Arts. It will become available on Coursera, the greatest MOOC site there is. (Multiple Open On-line Courses). I'm planning in participating myself. The course is called :
Live!: A History of Art for Artists, Animators and Gamers, more details on Coursera:

About the Course

Explore art history from the artist's perspective. Learn how contemporary artists, animators and gamers work from the art of the past as part of their creative process, while building your own skills in visual analysis and creative and critical thinking.

Workload: 2-4 hours/week
Taught In: English
Subtitles Available In: English

This course approaches the questions of “art” and “history” from the perspective of contemporary makers of art (sculpture, painting, photography, performance, installation and more), animators (whether character/story-based or experimental) and gamers, asking how artists actively make a history for their own practices by thinking about the creative process as a “conversation” with a wide range of art from the past.  Why are ground-breaking artists so often historically-minded (and yet tend to break all the rules of conventional history-telling)?  How do animators themselves “write” the largely unwritten history of their art through quotation, transposition and mash-ups?  Why should contemporary gamers look at classical painting anyway?

Do you know if you have to be American to sign up for that?

Cheers

Looks like fun! I signed up.
I just signed up ... doesn't look like you have to be an American ... jbd

Okay I signed up too. I just wonder if this is going to be a live show with crazy broadcasting hours for Europeans..

For more info: I'm doing a MOOC right now on Coursera about Creativity, Innovation and Change. An 8 week course, from Penn State, it's work related for me. My experiences are quite good.
Every Sunday there are new video's and exercises that come online. So Monday I set up may laptop and view the video's, view stuff and read articles. Every Saturday I plan some hours for the homework I want to do.
So there is a lot of freedom, you can watch the video's and materials anytime you want after they come available. If you don't want to earn a certificate the homework is arbitrary. I expect that also to be the case with this one.

Hmmm I am actually quite interested in this, but dont know how bad it will interfere with my work schedule. Its pretty hectic as it is, but the whole free thing defiantly has me keeping an eye on it lol.

Justs some info for other interested people: the course is delayed. It will start on February 24 2014. I got an email about this today.
