For New Members: A Guide to StopMotionAnimation.com

Welcome to StopMotionAnimation.com

This website had a complete overhaul in June of 2012. Many new features, such as easy photo uploading, posting videos and writing blogs, are now available to members. If you're new to the site or have been away for awhile, here's a highlight of all the changes.

You've got your own page!

Go to the navigation bar at the top of this page and click on My Page. Here you will find your most recent posts and comments.  You can customize your page by clicking on the Text Box's edit tab.  Add photos, a video, blogs or a link to your homepage. On the left side column, you can access all your blogs, discussions on the Message Board, events, photos, photo albums, and videos. Click on My Likes to revisit any posts you've marked with the Like button. It's a good way to bookmark things.

Search the Site

On the upper right corner there is a handy Search bar. It's a good place to go first if you are trying to find something specific on this massive site.

Message Board

This was the heart of the original site and where most discussions take place. It has been recreated here with essentially the same categories such as Stopmo Newbies, Stop Motion and Computers, Camera and Stage, Your Stopmo Film ProjectGeneral Puppet Making, Stop Motion Film Discussion, Jobs & Projects and over 20 other specialized forums.  If you're looking to post a discussion or debate, this is the first place to go.  It is also an excellent place to ask a question.  If you're new to the site, there is a thread to introduce yourself here.  Please do not duplicate your post and put it in different forums or blogs,  think about which forum is the best home for your discussion.  The latest Message Board posts are constantly updated and listed on the recent activity sidebar.  Message Board quick link buttons are located on the sidebar as well.  Click on Read New to read the most recent posts.

Blogs

Blogs are new to StopMotionAnimation.com and they are a great place to post an article for the site. If you want to write about the progress of your puppet or film project, try creating a blog. Editing your posts are easy, as there is no time limit imposed. You can easily add photos and embed video. Try to keep the topic of your blog about a specific subject. Access blogs here or go to My Page to start your own blog. If you are looking for advice, the best place to post a question is the Message Board.

Photos and Videos

Now it is easy to post your photos and videos. Just follow the instructions to easily upload your digital photos right from your computer. Videos from YouTube, Hulu and Vimeo can be embedded on the site as well.

Tutorials

The Handbooks were written to help provide assistance to newer animators in an attempt to answer some of the most often asked questions. The Original Stop Motion Handbook was written by a multitude of members several years ago and covers topics such as Sculpting and Moldmaking, Building a Wire Armature, and Lip Sync. The Stop Motion Animator's Handbook is currently a work in progress and focuses more on the animation process itself. Chapters include Armatures, Posing the Puppet, Animation Basics, and Walking & Running. More will be written in the future.
