  • Animated Eden - Cumbria's First International Animation Festival

    Oscar and Bafta-nominated animator and director Barry Purves is to be the special guest at Cumbria’s first International animated short film festival. Launching at Rheged Centre, near Penrith, and the town's Playhouse Theatre on Sunday September 8th.
    During the day, from 10am – 5pm, join us for a day packed with family-friendly screenings with Q&A, puppets, digital exhibition and discussions with a panel of animators. Then during the evening, from 6:30 – 11pm at Penrith Playhouse for live music lead by a Californian composer and local musicians accompanying animation, talks on What is Animation and Stop Motion/ Puppets and screenings by Barry Purves and after-hours screenings! Entry by donation (donations put towards paying for this festival and future events) Bar open all evening.

    Come spend your Sunday soaked in inspiration!

    Since 2002, Chulpicine Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Ecuador,
    annually organizes the only Itinerant Film Festival for kids and teenagers that travels
    around 7 provinces, arriving to most vulnerable areas of the country.
    Every year we intend to take the Festival even further and always with excellent movies in our
    catalog to keep on feeding our young audiences by exposing them to artistic cinema that can
    empower critical thinking, stimulate imagination, and promote positive cultural values that inspire
    our youth to reach their fullest potential.

We share work, discuss techniques, and debate relevant topics. All skill sets are welcome, from enthusiasts to students to professionals, and anyone who could contribute to the creation of animations. Character designers, writers, model makers, sound designers, general arty people, plus post production and games can come join us and make themselves at home. 

    The meetings are in Newcastle, Manchester and Leeds roughly every 2-3 months. This is with big thanks to our sponsors Creative England, University of Bradford and Imagine Animation Magazine. Manchester evenings are looked after by freelance animator and fellow campus member Kim Emson with our next meeting at the sharp project campus Thursday 2nd May from 6pm. It’s really informal and just sociable, which is great for solo freelancers working from home, and those that

  • The King in New York 80th anniversary celebration of King Kong

    An informal gathering of King Kong fans on the weekend of March 2-3 2013 in New York city. All events are pay as you go and there is no registration or membership needed. A screening of King Kong at the Film Forum on Sunday March 3rd at 11 A.M. as well as tours of the observation deck of the Empire State building, a section of surviving elevated trainway, the Radio City Music hall, where King Kong premiered 80 years ago and if possible the T-Rex at the Museum of Natural history. All events are optional (even the screening if your not very social), and up to the individual to attend and payment is confined to the events you chose to go to and no membership is required. An invitational display of King Kong related memorabilia and ephemera is in the works, and inquiries can be addressed to me here.

    Again, this is a fan event, not a convention, so there is no dealers room or guest signings.
