Hi,I made a search on Celebrity deathmatch series. I found the older version puppets were definitely made from foam latex with lots of wrinkles. While the newer puppets looked like made of foam latex…Continue

"Thanks both! There is always something to learn, and it is interesting to hear about two 3mm wires being 'deader', also the suggestion of keeping to 3 wires or fewer. My latest puppet is actually one that I made some years ago, but am only…"

StopmoNick replied to Jet Zhang's discussion Anybody purchased this armature from eBay?
"I use 4 or 5 1.5mm (1/16th") wires for arms - originally because that gave me a wire for each finger, and that was the smaller of the only 2 sizes of armature wire I could get.  Now I usually have a tube in the forearm to join the arm…"

Emily Myers replied to Jet Zhang's discussion Anybody purchased this armature from eBay?
"Hey Simon! The best advice I have for that is to use what feels best to you.  Every animator is different, some like it stiffer or softer than others.  I'd suggest not using more than 3 wires to make a part, because sometimes the…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Jet Zhang's discussion Anybody purchased this armature from eBay?
"Hi Emily Do you have any suggestions on the size and number of wires? I have been finding multiple (at least 4 or 5) 1mm wires work quite well for arms. Currently using 3 or 4 1.6mm for legs. There is a lot of conflicting information out there. When…"

"Thank you Emily. It is a great idea to bind the wires. While I am thinking if I can get some wires coated with soft plastic or some soft layer, it could be even better :)"

"I was just kind of browsing through this and thought I'd chime in.  I'm an Armaturist, of the ball and socket and wire variety.  My two cents is that a good wire armature is always better than a bad ball and socket!  If…"

Jet Zhang replied to Jet Zhang's discussion Respirator for working with foam latex
"I think it is better not in flat. I tried many times before and each time I got burning throat for days. It is not that harmful but definitely not good to your health. Garage or shed will be better, which I will try soon in my garage."

"Thank you Kathi ! The silicone coated foam latex puppet is quite complicated for me, even I had some experience of foam latex puppet. I will try it when I find the way to tint silicone easily. Foam latex is good for non-shining surface like clothes,…"

"For fingers that poke through,  you can coat the ends of the wire in latex base first, let it dry and then cast the armature in your mold with foam latex.   For making a lightweight puppet in silicone, why not cast it in a fluffy foam…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Jet Zhang's discussion Sculpture material of puppet hands
"Well, practise on a simple mould first. Here's what you need to do, assuming it is a hand or similar that requires a two part mould. First you surround the sculpt with soft clay up to the level of halfway. I like to use water clay (which does…"
